On Thursday 19th October, MotorCycling Ireland through Sports Insure, received a limited offer of coverage for the 2024 season. The underwriter at this point is not known. The offer we received is limited to €2million Public Liability cover. This cover is insufficient for almost all branches of our sport including enduro, most MX tracks, trial, all council and semi state lands, and circuits.
In addition, the financial aspect of the cover has a considerable cost, necessitating time to analyse. The committee have analysed this proposal, and have reverted back to the relevant bodies with alternate proposals to consider. These include increased levels of cover up to the €6million public liability required for most events. Specific off-road policy cover has also continued to be part of our request as it has been from the beginning.
Currently the broker at Sports Insure has been away, but is returning to office today. It is planned to have further information before and on time for the AGM on 11th November. Please note that as with all cases, insurance companies move quite slowly. Receiving an offer is progress, albeit one that may not be viable for Motorcycling Ireland. We await further response, and as always will update everyone as and when we have more information. Once again we would like to thank everyone for their patience.
Yours in sport, MCI Insurance Committee.
