A Message from the President of Motorcycling Ireland
United in Passion, Committed to Progress
Dear Members, Friends, and Supporters of Motorcycling Ireland,
As President of Motorcycling Ireland, it is my distinct honour to address our vibrant and passionate community. It is your enthusiasm, dedication, and love for the sport that continues to make our organisation not only the historical association it is but the home and the future of Motorcycling
This past year has been both challenging and inspiring. Our clubs, riders, volunteers, and fans have shown remarkable resilience, adapting to changing circumstances while keeping the spirit of competition and camaraderie alive. I am deeply grateful for your support but unfortunately we have had no events in 2025. Our overseas teams and Club volunteer’s kept the spark alive.
After a prolonged period of intense negotiation with various insurance companies, we have finally received an offer of insurance, to cover ALL our disciplines. In the proceeding months of negotiation, it would have been all to easy to just take what was on offer for small sectors of our community. My motto throughout this very stressful period has been united we stand and divided we fall.
There is not one section of our comparatively small sport that can survive alone. Some disciplines get lots of permits and buy lots of licences, some get small numbers of permits and small numbers of licences but pay more for them. It is this very mix that makes all motorcycling viable. There is no point, in my opinion, being parochial about it and just looking after the discipline you or your club is interested in.
The proposed offer letter has now been circulated to the head of all 7 disciplines that make up Motorcycling Ireland. I would urge you to interact with your Club, wherever you are in the Country or whatever discipline you are involved in and have your input to the coming decisions that affect your sport.
Looking ahead, Motorcycling Ireland is committed to fostering a safe, inclusive, and progressive environment for all riders, whether you are a seasoned competitor or new to the sport. We are investing in youth development, supporting our clubs, and working closely with our partners to enhance safety standards and event quality. Together, we will continue to champion the values that define us: integrity, fair play, and mutual respect.
I encourage every member to get involved, share your ideas, and help shape the future of our sport. Let us continue to support one another, celebrate our successes, and learn from our challenges. United, we can ensure that motorcycling in Ireland remains strong, dynamic, and welcoming for generations to come.
Thank you for your unwavering support and dedication. Wishing you all a safe and successful season ahead, both on and off the road.
With warm regards,
David McCann
President, Motorcycling Ireland
